Celestial Signs and the Manifestation of the Messiah

“And God said, Let there be lights in the firmament of the heaven to divide the day from the night; and let them be for signs, and for appointed times, and for days, and years.” Genesis 1:14

“And there shall be signs in the sun, and in the moon, and in the stars...” Luke 21:25

“We have seen His star in the East, and have come to worship Him.” Matthew 2:2

Celestial Signs and the Appointed Times

The Scriptures present creation as part of God's revelation. The earth, the seas, the cycles of nature, and the heavenly lights were established according to the order determined by the Creator.

Genesis 1:14 also declares that the heavenly lights were appointed to serve as signs and for appointed times.

From the very beginning, therefore, the biblical text associates the heavens not only with the natural ordering of time, but also with the means by which God orders and communicates His purposes throughout history.

Celestial Signs of the First and Second Coming

In the account of Jesus’ birth, a celestial sign drew the attention of the Magi from the East. In the prophetic discourses concerning the end, Jesus and John again refer to signs associated with the heavens.

This study brings together the principal astronomical reconstructions related to the First Coming and examines how these same regions of the heavens reappear in the expectation of the Second Coming, considering their relationship to biblical prophecy, historical events, and the sacred calendar.
